Here at Grace, we have a number of educations opportunities for both adults and youth.
Adult Education Opportunities
Adult Sunday School
The Adult Sunday School is taught by Pastor Chris Repp and others in the Hoffmeister Room. It meets on Sunday mornings year-round. From the Sunday after Labor Day to the Sunday before Memorial Day, the start time is 9:15 a.m. From Memorial Day Sunday to Labor Day Sunday, the start time is 10:45 a.m., following the single service.
Politics and religion are the two things you’re not supposed to talk about at a dinner party, lest you give rise to a heated argument and spoil the occasion. And yet both religion and politics are among the most important things we have to talk about. They affect our lives in significant ways. We want to give you a chance to talk about religion at least, in an informal setting outside of Church. During Pub Theology, we gather at a local bar to talk about matters of faith over an adult beverage or two. We meet on the third Thursday of the month at a local establishment. Please contact the office (email@example.com or 217-356-6232) for this month’s location.
On The Way
On The Way is an opportunity to deepen our faith and work on our discipleship. The model for On The Way traces its origins to the early church. The pattern for our time together will be threefold. We’ll start with a brief presentation on a topic related to the faith, followed by questions and discussion. We will then spend time with a biblical text. This will not be a traditional Bible study. No special knowledge about the Bible is needed. We will focus on listening, both to the text and to one another. We will not focus on the right answers, but on a process of discovery in conversation with one another, and sometimes with those who have gone before us in the faith through their writings. We will finish each session with a time of directed prayer that will include one-on-one conversation, silent prayer, and finishing with corporate prayer. The goal is to make time each week to focus on our relationship with God, to become more comfortable with the question Jesus asks his disciples: “Who do you say that I am?”
Women of the ELCA (WELCA)
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
We strive to mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
Faith Circle is scheduled to meet on the third Tuesday evening of the month from September through May, with the November meeting shifted to avoid Thanksgiving. Meetings are held in the Narthex beginning with coffee and fellowship at 7:00 p.m. A brief business meeting at 7:30 p.m. precedes the Bible study, using materials from the monthly publication entitled “Gather for Faith and Action,” published by WELCA. Offerings we collect support selected GLC projects, local helping agencies, and the WELCA organization at the national level.
Anyone interested in subscribing to the “Gather” publication should go to GatherMagazine.org or call 844-409-0576. The cost of a subscription is $20 per year.
